Ruling! Heh, spam in the genre of indie/experimental (with ‘troll’ sub-genre), received in TKS comments today. Hey Mr., I totally wasn’t insinuating anything!
Hey Mr.
Digital copy of full Opera released on Knife.net today!
Your comments on Mt Sims & Miss PTR seemed a little less than favourable or objective (it is a free country, I know) however perhaps if you’d done a bit of research maybe you would have realised extremely talented Janine Rostock has been performing under the moniker Planningtorock for more than half a decade now (referring to the part about worst name of the year). You say you’re into “weird” stuff so name aside check her out; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4GmMHZrDxs&feature=related
What’s in a nme? A name is what you make of it. It works in this case, no?
You also insinuate a little that it was PTR & MT Sims involvement which lead to the “operatic” sound. How can you be sure when it comes across that you have little knowledge on these two collaborators? For one, Mt Sims is rather punky although experimental but far from operatic and PTR has touches of more screechy/bluesy sounds vocally.
It seems to me Olof is an individual interested in pushing boundaries and realising his own capabilities as a musician and expanding these capabilities with new projects, not wanting to be pigeon holed into a box or genre. I’m sure when the idea presented itself to compose a contemporary “Opera” Olof threw himself at it. Did I mention he is a damn fine Minimal Techno DJ too! Just another facet of this multi talented, music loving individual.
The Opera was a visual masterpiece in my opinion, I managed to catch it in Copenhagen last year… Started off a bit slow but picked up in the second half. If Puccini or Verdi were around today, I’m sure their version of an Opera wouldn’t be far off from what this collaboration between The Knife, Mt Sims & PTR has achieved. Amazing work.
