The Gossip

Gemma Syme learns ‘Loose lips sink ships’  when The Gossip is around.

Holy Moly. I knew The Gossip was going to be good. But I didn’t realise that it would be feel-good too!

Running a little late I managed to catch the last of Cortina. I swear Bek Coogan’s smile shines brighter than Venus in the night sky. The crowd was responsive and interested so it seems like they had a good set – gutted I wasn’t there earlier so I could actually write something more interesting and experience the awesomeness that is… CORTINA!

Time for the Gossip. I went in wondering if Beth Ditto would have some air of royalty surrounding her. Some sort of arrogance maybe? But much to my delight, she beamed this amazingly awesome possie-vibe, and seemed humbled to be there. Although she did do the whole ‘touching the crowds hand as they slobber over me’ it didn’t seem like she was doing it because she thought she was a gift straight from god – but rather offering her whole self for our enjoyment and to bring a positive message to everyone there. I did pull the thumbs up at her – and she seemed rather happy with that and thumbed me back. And yes I did giggle with glee.

I guess that shows that a powerful and respected woman doesn’t have to be a power hungry asshole to get the message across. You do have to fight for your right, and people are listening!

Sharing hot hot sweat with the screaming ladies in the front rows I danced my little legs silly. The Gossip keep the energy high and mighty! And Beth can waaaaiiiillll. My god she can wail. They were a tight little threesome on the night, and had a full sound. It was a great to hear that everything was being carried along together, unlike some moments on the album where Beth’s voice almost demands a fuller band to sing along with.

Much to the delight of the fans at the front the night ended with people being pulled on stage to dance with the band. I can remember seeing some of the people singing along to ‘Standing in the Way of Control’ so furiously it looked like their faces were about to rip open. Passion and empowerment go hand-in-hand with this band.
