DESPICABLE DOGS

OKAY so I gotta say I am really really really psyched for whatever Brooklyn’s Small Black is gonna do next. Whilst the tracks on the Despicable Dogs 7″ hide behind the same kinda smokescreen as fellow Brooklynite Mike Sniper (the amazing mastermind behind Blank Dogs // Captured Tracks FYI), Small Black manage to break through any kind of pseudo-shyness barrier by letting their singers still-pretty-shy vocals shine out over everything else, which is pretty rad, considering Kings of Animals contains some amazing singalong hooks, even if you can’t make out all the lyrics ’cause his friends are layering all kinds of backing vocals behind him, which almost sound more intriguing than what the main vocal line’s actually saying. And even when you finally think you’ve worked out what’s being sung, or you’re ready to cry out along with the track, some amazing wailing guitar line overrides you before leaving you thinking ‘ I want to go to there’.

They’ve jammed with chillwavers like Washed Out (who actually remixed the stellar 7″ title track Despicable Dogs), describe their sound as both “acoustamatic” and “tape music”, neither of which really convey how direct and realised their catchiness is, but don’t let any of that put you off. Wait, why am I still typing – more importantly, WHY HAVEN’T YOU LINKED TO BOX.NET YET???

Oh, right. Because the link is down here.

Sorry.

Or maybe just cut to the chase and click here if you trust me. (Links at the top anyway)
