Oh fuck. Here it comes. HEALTH are back, their latest album Get Colour dropping all over the internet over the weekend. TITANIC. It’s a clusterfuck noise-rock explosion with space-age delay effects, those typical HEALTH vocals that sound almost like they’re being sung by a robot from behind a veil of heavy riff spazz-outs, and a whole lotta intensity. It’s way too fitting that they’re closing out the Nine Inch Nails ‘last shows ever’, as their brand of noise can’t help but lend itself to the idea of ‘industrial rock’. Where NIN veered off into 4-disc instrumental albums, HEALTH take that whole idea of machine-like noise pulsation and keep it under or around the 4 minute mark. In Heat’s jagged stop-start entry is puntuated with time-warp blasts that hold it back, before it launches into a ruthlessly awesome riff blast. Vocals meander in briefly, before STEPPING THE FUCK BACK for the instruments to hammer out the rest of the tracks 108 seconds. For an album so short (9 tracks, 32 minutes), it sounds fucking epic. The Leviathan (monster, not book) of noise-rock. If Nouns was the pop album of 2008, then Get Colour is, so far, the rock album of 2009. oh. IN MY OPINION.
