INVISIBLE GRRL

OH YES! King Khan’s 50’s rocksoul jams get even dirtier (in every way imaginable) on the latest offering from he and the BBQ Show, entitled Invisible Girl. It’s pretty roughly recorded, which adds to the filthy effect of the album in exemplary style. The majority of the tracks are pretty standard garage rockers, but Khan’s penchant for sexualising everything (see the not-that-great-musically-but-a-perfect-example-nonetheless breakdown in Tastebuds) makes this record a pretty fun romp. The slow jams manage to channel a grimey Otis Redding feel, particularly on Third Ave, but the highlights come thick and fast on the pacier tracks – Spin The Bottle is all you’ll really need to be sure of this. The ‘Garage Rock Revolution’ may be well and truly over (ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME, JET?), but King Khan still manages to squeeze more fun out of the 50s and 60s than anyone else. Plus, he’s one fucking crazy bitch.
