There’s an stoned, ethereal quality that makes Wirral’s Forest Swords stand out from the plethora of drone bands that I’ve listened to this year. Coming off like a more succinct, organic version of Pocahaunted, they soundtrack the existensial crisis that occurs when you find yourself lost in the mountains, completely overwhelmed by the enormosity of your surroundings. Its got that grandiose feel going on all the way through, yet retains a welcoming, personal vibe: they are drawn-out, dronestep (thx No Pain In Pop, good genre creation) epics, but they are your drawn-out, dronestep epics. The title track from new EP Miarches gets even more snow-stoned, mind-blown, and desolate. If you like your weedstrike with a completely Zen aftertaste, download away.
