SPACE SURF GLITCH MOB

There’s a rainbow static feel to Fuck Buttons’ new single, Surf Solar, that lends itself to the idea that the UK duo have somewhat turned a corner since last years soothing // intense Street Horrrsing. The Lovelessy battering ram electronic distortion blasts of that debut are pushed behind a glitchy bits-and-pieces melody here, threatening to burst into OTT Sweet Love For Planet Earth fury but instead letting the chopped computer melodies ride the song out. And when that main beat does share centre stage in its last minute, it’s with a hood-down desert drive freedom sunset chord progression that abruptly fades away, leaving you reeeeaaaalllllly wanting the full version of the track so you can do yr dusk bike rides with a full 9 minutes of Surf Solar bliss. It really does carry the vibe of surfing the sun waves actually, solar flares licking out from behind some ultra-sweet spaceboard as you ride out into the unknown with yr sweet shades and ipod nano (chrome-plated space edition). The positive but urgent vibes all over this track and it’s animal call // playground sandcastle building session // summerily cathartic b-side New Crossbow (complete with matching ‘I wish this song was longer’ inducing radness) seem to prove that where Fuck Buttons exorcised all manner of angsty demons on the drawn-out, heavy screams of Street Horrrsing, they are now looking forward, outward, sunward and spaceward. And also towards a glitchy mindfuckingly amazing sophomore album in Tarot Sport, which is released October 20 via ATP Recordings. YESSSSSSSS.
