BASS. Lots and lots of bass. It’s the most striking thing about Telepathe’s live show. Literally. SFBH shook so much during their closer of So Fine that collapse wouldn’t have seemed like too much of an impossibility. Although the lesbian hordes may have been responsible for that, rather than the bass.It wasn’t necessarily overloud, just thick and intense. And beautiful. Telepathe provide a great dichotomy onstage, all sugar & spice in their interactions with their gear and each other. Busy Gangnes hid behind her mesmerising galaxy top and long hair, peering out from underneath to sing her parts like she was afraid of someone yelling out a reference to their embarrassing former math-rock band, while Melissa Livaudis snarled around her gear, yanking the mic to her face, only to surprise with a voice void of aggression, instead melodic and high. Their melodies are something that worked all too well with the brutal bass levels, soaring above the thunder when Devils Trident and Michael kick into their choruses. Chrome’s On It proved to be the only letdown, not quite kicking into it’s stuttering verse rhythm like I’d hoped it would. Still, that’s pretty meaningless in the face of yet another criminally underattended, yet stunning show. The final duo of Devils Trident and So Fine seemed to be what the crowd was waiting for, and it showed in their pickup in snarl and sway onstage. Badass babes on the bass. It was disappointing that there was no encore, but they did look like they weren’t too interested in being there. Maybe that’s all part of the deal. I mean, it did make us all just want to hear more. Back soon, please. You should all come next time, too.
