TOMORROW, IN A YEAR

Woooooah so The Knife were already a pretty scary / good band, and that Fever Ray album was all kinds of stunning, but there’s something in the dissonant percussion and first minutes of operatic yelps that are pushing this new track, from their forthcoming Darwin-based fucking opera entitled Tomorrow, In A Year that has me super intrigued in them now. Midway through the beats enter familiar territory a la We Share Our Mothers Health, and the vocals get properly operatic, I think courtesy of the collaborators, Mt. Sims and Planningtorock (early contender for worst name of the year). It’s exiting few minutes are probably the best part of the track, where the beat slithers its way into submission, and some terrifying strings start edging their way into the fray / your head, eventually scraping across some short-circuiting synths. Not sure how I feel about the operatic part, but I’m totally hooked into this new project, if only because it’s so fucking weird.
